【摘要】:Manysourcesofnaturalandpetroleumgasescontainsulfurcompoundsthatareodorous,corrosive,andpoisonoustocatalystsusedingaseousfuelprocessing.LowppmamountsofsulfurodorantsareaddedtonaturalgasandLPgasesforsafetypurposes.Someodorantsareunstableandreacttoformcompoundshavinglowerodorthresholds.Quantitativeanalysisoftheseodorizedgasesensuresthatodorantinjectionequipmentisperformingtospecification.Althoughnotintendedforapplicationtogasesotherthannaturalgasandrelatedfuels,thistestmethodhasbeensuccessfullyappliedtofueltypegasesincludingrefinery,landfill,cogeneration,andsewagedigestergas.Refinery,landfill,sewagedigesterandotherrelatedfueltypegasesinherentlycontainvolatilesulfurcompoundsthataresubjecttofederal,state,orlocalcontrol.Themethanefractionofthesefueltypegasesareoccasionallysoldtodistributorsofnaturalgas.Forthesereasons,bothregulatoryagenciesandproductionanddistributionfacilitiesmayrequiretheaccuratedeterminationofsulfurtosatisfyregulatory,productionordistributionrequirements.Fuelgasesarealsousedinenergyproductionorareconvertedtonewproductsusingcatalyststhatarepoisonedbyexcessivesulfurinthefeedgas.Industryfrequentlyrequiresmeasurementofsulfurinthesefueltypegasestoprotecttheircatalystinvestments.AnalyticalMethods8212;Gaschromatography(GC)iscommonlyusedinthedeterminationoffixedgasandorganiccompositionofnaturalgas(TestMethodD1945).OtherstandardASTMmethodsfortheanalysisofsulfurinfuelgasesincludeTestMethodsD1072andD4468fortotalsulfurandTestMethodsD4010andD4884forhydrogensulfide.1.1Thistestmethodisprimarilyforthedeterminationofspeciatedvolatilesulfur-containingcompoundsinhighmethanecontentgaseousfuelssuchasnaturalgas.Ithasbeensuccessfullyappliedtoothertypesofgaseoussamplesincludingair,digester,landfill,andrefineryfuelgas.Thedetectionrangeforsulfurcompounds,reportedaspicogramssulfur,isten(10)toonemillion(1000000).Thisisequivalentto0.01to1000mg/m3,basedupontheanalysisofa1ccsample.1.2Therangeofthistestmethodmaybeextendedtohigherconcentrationbydilutionorbyselectionofasmallersampleloop.Note18212;Dilutionwillreducemethodprecision.1.3Thistestmethoddoesnotpurporttoidentifyallsulfurspeciesinasample.Onlycompoundsthatareelutedthroughtheselectedcolumnunderthechromatographicconditionschosenaredetermined.Thedetectorresponsetosulfurisequimolarforallsulfurcompoundswithinthescope(1.1)ofthistestmethod.Thus,unidentifiedcompoundsaredeterminedwithequalprecisiontothatofidentifiedsubstances.Totalsulfurcontentisdeterminedfromthetotalofindividuallyquantifiedcomponents.1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsarestandard.Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsareforinformationonly.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
